Assigned Scripture
Luke 24:1-8
But very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. 2 They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. 3 So they went in, but they didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 As they stood there puzzled, two men suddenly appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes.
5 The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? 6 He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee, 7 that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day.”
8 Then they remembered that he had said this.
1 Corinthians 1:18-24
18 The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. 19 As the Scriptures say,
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise
and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.”
20 So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. 21 Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. 22 It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom. 23 So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense.
24 But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles,Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

SUMMARY: There is a divine economy that changes the value of everything we cherish and everything we despise. In this economy, there is power in surrender, glory in suffering, freedom in obedience, and life in the shadow of death. Ever since the resurrection, the end is where we start from. Our worst moment is the beginning of our best.
- Where do you see the mystery of Easter (“dying” and “rising” at the same time) happening in the world? Describe what you see.
- Of the 4-5 losses (or “little deaths”) in Jesus’ descent, which one(s) is giving you the hardest time right now? Why is it so hard?
- What do you hear God saying to you as you face these losses? Where do you see signs of resurrection there?
- What do you see modeled in Jesus’ descent (i.e. courage, humility, forgiveness, peace, etc) that you most want for yourself in this season?
- Look over the “Fruit of the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22-23). Pray for one other person in your group, asking God to give them one of these qualities (fruit).
