Assigned Scripture

Matthew 4:18-22

18 One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 19 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 20 And they left their nets at once and followed him.

21 A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them to come, too. 22 They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind.

Group Response

Following the weekly gathering, you’re invited to respond to the service by engaging in group discussion.

SUMMARY:

If at first we “leave … and follow,” everything else comes easier.

Discussion Questions

1. Tell the story of your (or someone else’s) conversion. What happened? How was it like or unlike Jacob’s incident at the Jabbok River?

2. When thinking about Jesus, what do you love most about him?

3. What is it about Jesus that you still can’t understand? Be specific. Why is that so important to you?

4. What does Jesus seem to do routinely and effortlessly that you wish you could do? Why is it so easy for him?

5. What do you see Jesus doing in the place where you work/live? What would it mean for you to follow him in that activity? What would you need to do?
