Prologue: Christ, the Eternal Word
1 In the beginning the Word already existed.
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
2 He existed in the beginning with God.
3 God created everything through him,
and nothing was created except through him.
4 The Word gave life to everything that was created,[a]
and his life brought light to everyone.
16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave[a] his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
21 For just as the Father gives life to those he raises from the dead, so the Son gives life to anyone he wants.
24 “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.
25 Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life.[a] Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. 26 Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”
30 The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. 31 But these are written so that you may continue to believe[a]that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.

1. What did you want when you first decided to follow Jesus? How has that desire evolved thru the years?
2. When you think of holiness what images come to mind? How do these images make it more or less attractive? Based on John’s gospel, how might you explain holiness to someone asking?
3. Which of the 3 components of “believing” is hardest for you? Give an example of something you “believe”and how your belief involves all 3 components.
