holy week at home
Today is a solemn day; therefore, we haven’t provided a formal liturgy for you. Consider how you, and anyone you’re gathered with, might mark this day as such. We do encourage you to use today to prepare the elements for communion (see more details below), which we’ll celebrate tomorrow, Easter morning, during the livestream. We’ve also provided additional activities if you’re looking for more. But today is certainly a confusing day as we see God rest on this seventh day—just as he did after creation—but today he rests in a tomb.
In Preparation for Easter Morning
Build Your Family Altar.
THE BREAD OF HEAVEN
Prepare some bread. You can simply purchase it or you may find it a valuable ritual—whether by yourself or with a group—to take the time and make it. Once it’s prepared, place it on the empty plate hidden on the altar.
THE CUP OF SALVATION
Purchase some grape juice. Find the cup hidden on the altar and fill it with the juice. Put back the cover to ensure the altar and everything on it (now including the bread and the juice) remain covered.
And now, wait until tomorrow, Easter morning, to uncover the altar—revealing the body of Christ, the Bread of Heaven; and the blood of Christ, the Cup of Salvation.
7 & 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3 cups lukewarm water

1 & 1/2 tablespoons instant yeast or active dry yeast
3 cups all-purpose flour (measured, then sifted)
1 tsp. sugar
1 stick of butter (melted)

• Mix flour and sugar and work the butter in with a fork or pastry blender until the mixture becomes tiny crumbs.
• Add milk, stir in with fork until the dough cleans off the side of the bowl.
• Roll out onto cookie sheet. Mark into strips 1″ wide and prick with fork tines.
• Bake at 350˚F for 22 minutes.

WATCH THE TEXT
Based on Matthew 27:32-66, Mark 15:21-16:1, Luke 23:26-56, and John 19. Notice this video stops short of the actual end, but you can save the rest for tomorrow.
A DEEPER LOOK
What are the ramifications of God becoming like us, stepping into our space, and even journeying into death? What is God’s ultimate goal in all of this?
